Wow, i can't believe i am the first one to write a review for this game. I can see all the other 3DS games have received a few reviews, but this one. I'm gonna give this game some lovin and attention.
It is hard to review a game in words, so i am going to do my best. I wanted a game that was Mario like and since the launch titles for the 3DS were lacking a Mario and Zelda, i ended up picking this title up because i enjoy action adventure games. I didn't want Rayman 2 because it is another remake of the Rayman that was on the Dreamcast and the Rayman that was also released on the original DS Lite.
For anyone whose ever played the other installments in the Lego series (Batman, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, etc) then one pretty much knows what's in store. The game is a great action/adventure platformer. You get to control some of your favorite Star Wars characters in this game and level one actually starts off where you control Yoda. You scroll through the levels with different objectives and things that must be collected. You can also switch between characters at anytime. In level one, Yoda can change between 2 characters and of course these characters serve a purpose. For instance, one character can swing far distances where Yoda can't, but he can levitate objects and so forth. Nice balance of utilizing players for different goals. Along the way, you'll encounter many villians that must be defeated. This game is sorta of a button masher. Of course, if you have seen the movie then you will pretty much get the layout of each round/episode. The visuals in this game are truly stunning. It is so nice to see Nintendo ramp things up and provide PSP/PS2-esque graphics on a handheld and i knew they had it in them to create this, but i had no idea that such visuals could be served up in a cartridge and not on a CD-esque (UMD) form. I must stress the fact that 3D effects are a nice touch, but the game is really 2.5D and not 3D. When i purchased my 3DS i kept thinking that i'd be playing games like felt like watching the movie 'Avatar'. That is not the case. Things don't really fly at you, but some of the effects in this game do create that on a smaller scale such as, trees, branches, ships, etc. It just enhances the game where it gives the illusion that it is something the gamer can touch, but can't. The game also functions well in 2D. The 3D is really just an added bonus and it works well in this title. When i was jumping around from platform to platform, my palms were sweating because of the 3 dimensional effect which made it seem that Yoda could fall off if he is to close to the edge. The rocks/platforms really POPPED and gave the game a breathe of depth that doesn't exist in 2D hanheld/console games. Even the trees and explosions look stunning.
This is defnitely a game to own with hours of fun. I just wish the 3DS games were a bit cheaper. Thirty bucks sounds about right, but not forty.
