Unfortunately I bought a copy of this tape last November hoping for that for an un-authorised version something new and different,I am a SW fan but found the interview's repititious and overall, not of much interest as a hole,I also have the original 1977 The Making of Star Wars, far more entertaining though I understand most-likely un-obtainable now,in my opnion rent the Unauthorised version first before buying and decide for yourself. Just because your'e a fan does'nt mean you have to like everything put out there connected to the Star Wars franchise, it is boring and a disappointment, buyer's beware in future I will view/rent first before purchasing!

Don't really understand this release. Seems like the picture is out of focus most of the time. As with all Laserdisc with digital sound, the audio is incredible. Much better than DVD's but the video leaves something to be desired. Odd for a THX release but the video seems foggy and out of focus for the most part. Also the color is a little dry. I would think that such a recent printing would look better. Still, if you want an original release of this film, go for the Laserdisc version and trash the new dvd's. Much better audio than the DVD (Special Lucas preferred edition). Still questioning the video quality though.

The Stars of Star Wars: Interviews from the Cast Review

The Stars of Star Wars: Interviews from the Cast
Average Reviews:

This DVD is a hodge-podge of footage of people waiting in line, brief interviews with the stars of the films, short cuts of sci-fi films and television shows, longer interviews with the series' fans, and a few other eccentricies. The narration of the DVD is really well done and covers up for some of the poor editing. However, other than the narration, that's about it. The "interviews" with the stars are really short and most were done waiting in line for movie premiers. The DVD also contrasts Star Wars to Star Trek and towards the end of the disc an attempt at comparing Ed Wood to George Lucas is made. Can you believe it, comparing PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE to STAR WARS! Unbelievable.
The only DVD extras are a series of short interviews with some of the stars of Star Wars. Most are with cast members from THE PHANTOM MENACE. However, there are a couple other interviews that took place over twenty years ago with THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. The best interview in the whole set is with Harrison Ford and Anthony Daniels; it is by far the most entertaining and interesting part of the DVD.
This is a DVD that only Star Wars fans can appreciate it. It's not too bad for a hodge-podge collection of film. However, some of the editing is poor and there isn't anything new or thought-provoking. Besides that, the DVD compares Ed Wood's films to STAR WARS. If it weren't for the good narration and the Harrison Ford/Anthony Daniels interview, the DVD would have received one star just for the Ed Wood comparison.

Star Wars (1977) Review

Star Wars (1977)

I was a freshman in college when I took my new girlfriend, (now married for over 30 yrs.) to see George Lucas' 1977 film "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope." This movie literally blew our minds!!! Audiences were not used to the great special effects this film introduced to the world! Even more compelling for me was the story. The movie had a visceral magnetism that took hold of me. It was only years later when I found out why that was, and the answer that I found is going to be the basis for my review. Let me first say that I love finding out about the "back story" of the great works of artists, the answer I found to this work of art filled me with joy and a sense of satisfaction beyond my dreams!!!
I saw a several part series on PBS moderated by Bill Moyers talking to George Lucas about the inspiration for his "Star Wars" story. Lucas gave most of the inspirational credit to a book he read by one of the world's preeminent scholars on religion and myth, Joseph Campbell; his book is "A Hero With A Thousand Faces." I gained a whole new perspective on religion after reading this book and understood why it was so compelling to Lucas. What Campbell was able to ascertain by studying religion and myth is that in every culture there is a foundational "monomyth" describing a "hero's" journey that is at the center of every culture's belief system. I am going to describe the "monomyth" cycle within the "Star Wars" movie to make the point.
Campbell discovered through extensive research that humankind shares a universal monomyth in its various religions and legends especially pertaining to the creation of the world and humankind. Campbell borrowed the term monomyth from James Joyce's book Finnegan's Wake. Campbell's intuitive insight in human myth proves that for thousands of years these myths display a certain standard structure, which he summarizes beautifully in his book.
A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back
from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man (Campbell 30).
There are at least four major stages that a monomyth has however, in his book, Campbell goes on to describe seventeen stages that some monomyth's posses. The four stages making up the cycle of a monomyth are "passage: separation-initiation-return:" In the first stage, known as the passage stage, the hero is summoned to journey or embark on an adventure by some kind of event that takes place or from a message, he receives. The hero may embark on this passage willingly or reluctantly. For instance, in the movie, the young Lukeskywalker returning to his farm from performing some errands finds his aunt and uncle killed by shock troops of the Empire. He had been itching to leave the farm to go to the flight academy, so faced with this tragedy he finally has a reason to leave the farm, to start his "journey."
Campbell says that during the second stage, the separation stage, the hero meets with a mentor or wise man who gives the hero either an amulet or some words of wisdom to be of help to the hero on the adventure. In the movie this is where Luke meets with former Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi who gives him a light saber and starts to teach him the ways of the "force."
During the third stage, the initiation stage, the hero goes through several trials or tests. The hero will go through his first transformation, also known as "crossing the first threshold," as he crosses over to another world or dimension leaving behind the old world. The hero often receives help in these ordeals along the way by allies or from a supernatural force. In this case Luke is helped by Han Solo and Princess Leia on his quest to fight against the Empire's dark force Darth Vader.
As the hero completes these ordeals successfully, he proves himself more worthy to continue the adventure. Most importantly, during this stage the hero must pass through a major ordeal that will expand his consciousness, and thereby change his character forever. Often, this ordeal entails the death of an ally or enemy.
This is where Luke's mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi meets his death at the hand of Darth Vader, which enrages Luke and will eventually cause him to fight Vader in a duel with light sabers.
In the fourth stage, once the hero successful accomplishes his ordeal he is rewarded with a gift, it could be intrinsic like the "holy grail, or it can be new found knowledge to better the world with.
This last stage the hero travels is that of the return whence he came. Often the hero will undergo further trials on his return before he is permitted to cross the threshold back to the world he left. During his return journey, the hero will use his newfound wisdom or gift to make a safe return home. Once home the gift is used to cure some ill in the hero's home or to impart new wisdom to his neighbors.
In the case of Luke he will continue with the help of other mentors like Yoda, to become a Jedi master, completing his last stage wherein he receives "enlightenment" the gift that he can bestow on his world.
Campbell points to the significance of the monomyth in the fact that it describes the cycle that Moses, Jesus, Buddha, and the Mahavira had gone through according to their religious adherents. This is not to mention the hundreds of other monomyths told throughout human history. The monomyth proves that humankind shares a common creation DNA in a sense. No wonder Campbell's monomyth was the perfect vehicle for Lucas' "Star Wars" story!!!
I hope you enjoyed the journey!!!

It comes in a blue box with a hologram on the front. Inside are the 3 star wars movies in letterbox form, a letter from George, a book and a additional movie called from star wars to jedi. George Lucas states in this movie that he will never make a movie based on special effects it will always be about the story...hmmm...what happen George? Also in this film it shows all the original star wars special effects being done with models and puppets NO CGI whatsoever the way it should be. CGI RUINS FILM. These are the 3 films I remember watching in theaters and the 3 films I remember watching on TV once a year as a kid. Classics should never be changed, its like Mozart or Leonardo changing their music or paintings respectively.

This is just an alert since there seems to be some confusion about a trilogy release with the original unaltered versions along with the special editions vs a trilogy set that only contains the special editions and no copies of the original unaltered versions.
The reviews for both sets are merged together... that is why you are seeing people claim that it has the original unaltered versions, and people complaining they do not. THIS set that I specifically clicked on to make this comment on is on the 2004 release which DOES NOT CONTAIN THE ORIGINAL UNALTERED VERSIONS. The box image is silver and has Darth Vader's mask on the box. This set ONLY contains the SE along with a 4th bonus disc of making of features and trailers and a sneak peak at episode III. If you want the trilogy set that contains both the SE and the unaltered versions but no bonus features, make sure when purchasing from Amazon, that the picture is a picture of Darth Vader and Luke clashing with light sabers and the box has a lot of blue coloring. It also says IV V VI along the bottom. Scroll down to DVD info and it should say release date: 2008. THAT is the version you are looking for.
If you place an order on the Trilogy with the Silver box with Darth Vaders mask on it, you are going to get the 2004 release of the trilogy and that's probably not the one you want... This review is going to appear on both sets though... So make sure before you buy, that you are on the correct trilogy page. Check the picture. Check the release date.
There are plenty of reviews of the actual product so I'm not going to go into that. Just wanted to clear up some confusion.

I bought this for the Star Wars game alone, which currently sells for the same price. I thought it wouldn't hurt to get the James Bond and Indiana Jones games thrown in. After playing Star Wars and Indiana Jones, I have to rate this an ABSOLUTE STEAL.
Star Wars is a solid game. Virtually identical to Age of Empires II, with a few new twists (flying units, shields) and great art. It uses the same tried and true engine. They did polish a few of the the subtle complaints of AOE II (e.g. automatic farm rebuilding), which is nice. Very fun and addicting game, maybe too much deja vu for some Age of Empires veterans though. Lots of replay value, you can make all sorts of random maps and scenarios, so you're not always playing the same game. Multiplayer is a blast. I love this game.
Indiana Jones turned out to be an entertaining game. It took me a little while to get used to third person viewing (I normally play first person). The graphics are good, and the game is sufficiently challenging. Trying to find the hidden bonus artifacts is a nice touch that adds a secondary purpose to the game. At times the controls are a little quirky, but overall a fun game to play one time through.
I haven't played the Bond game yet, so can't comment on it.
