(This review applies to the Macintosh version of Star Wars Racer). A fun, exceptionally fast-paced game that brings racing to the Star Wars video game universe (and more multimillions to George Lucas's coffers). But before you buy, check the system requirements carefully: while this runs fine on my brand-new iMac, I'm hearing that many older Macs aren't supported for this fast-running program. The key to watch out for in the system requirements seems to be "3-D hardware support (OpenGL compatible); iMac and newer machines require no extra hardware" (according to the system requirements on Amazon's page). That's why I give it 3 stars...the game itself would be worth five stars but it loses a couple for being persnickity and only running on Macs that were seemingly introduced last week. While I applaud LucasArts for pushing the envelope in creating the game, owners of older hardware should have a chance to run it too, and not at speeds of Jabba the Hutt.

As we know the N64 is a system that is past its prime and aging quickly into the abyss of "retro" status. So why should anyone who does not already have the system purchase one.
1.) Because of its age the price is coming down. ... If you don't believe me, then try the mysimon.com search engine for yourself. That makes this system very affordable now.
2.) Game are the only reason for really owning a console system, so if there are very many AAA titles available that makes the system worth owning. Games like Super Mario 64, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Zelda Major's Mask, Mario Kart 64, Donkey Kong 64, WaveRace 64, StarFox 64, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, make the N64 worth owning. If you cannot find at least two games that you like in the above list, you might as well give up playing video games all-together. Two of my favorite CONSOLE games are Zelda Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64, and in my humble opinion they are reason enough to have the system, but there are several others that I like too :)
Hope that you found my review somewhat helpful. Thank you for your time.

Star Wars Racer Episode One Review

Star Wars Episode Racer is a surprisingly fun racing game. It won't make you forget Mario Kart, but it's still a good game to pass the time. If you've seen Episode I you know you'll race the pod racers around several Star Wars racing arenas. The levels are nicely designed, the graphics are good for the time, the racing mechanics are very smooth, plus this game has an insane sense of speed that feels very similar to F-Zero or Top Gear 3000. The gameplay is very smooth and never gives you any trouble. This game has damage modeling for your pod racer, so if you scratch up against a wall too much, one of your engines will explode and you will explode and die. Or, if you crash into a wall to fast you will explode and die, but it's always fun to hear Anakin scream when he explodes. You have many different characters to choose from along with levels which really keeps things fresh and exciting. The main flaws with this game is sometimes it can get a little boring, and the graphics are dated. But if you want to play something other than Mario Kart of F-Zero for your N64, this game is definitely the fix you've been looking for.

Get behind the controls of a Podracer as Anakin Skywalker or any one of over 20 Podracers, as you feel the power of racing a twin-engine craft at 600 miles per hour. Visit eight distinctly detailed worlds as you make your way through Tusken Raider attacks, methane lakes, anti-gravity tunnels, and more. Each intense competition pits you against more than 20 opponents, as you do what you must to be the first to the finish line. With settings and sound effects taken directly from the Phantom Menace world, this ones sure to thrill even the pickiest STAR WARS enthusiasts, while the voice of Jake Lloyd makes the whole event that much closer to being in a movie theater. Each pulse-pounding race has do-or-die stakes, and if you fail to finish in the top spot, it might just mean your peril. As with most STAR WARS games for the Nintendo 64, the details elevate it above ones of similar styles its not just a great STAR WARS game, its a great racing game.

If you hate racing games you'll love Episode 1 Racer. I'm more into adventure games but I'm an avid Star Wars fan so when I saw this I knew I had to get it. The first time I rented it I was hooked. I loved the fast paced game play, the friction less environment and the different tracks that were so original. One of the many great features of this game is the two player game play. I've played this game for hours with my friends. The only thing not so great about this game is that it doesn't come with an expansion pak. With the expansion pak it makes a big difference. Also, when you play in two player mode the screen is kinda bright. I reccommend this game to anyone, especially Star Wars fans.
