633 Squadron (1964) Review

633 Squadron (1964)

World War II adventure film about a Royal Air Force fighter-bomber squadron assigned to destroy a Nazi nuclear weapons research facility in Norway. Cliff Robertson headlines the movie as a former Eagle Squadron pilot in command of 633 Squadron with a colorful assembly of international pilots. They embark on the hazardous assignment with the target located inside a Norwegian fjord, guarded by an immense array of anti-aircraft artillery. Worth noting is the story was probably inspired by the real-life exploits of RAF Mosquito squadrons that conducted such dangerous missions, hunting down Nazi ship convoys along Norway's rugged coastline.
The real attraction of this film is abundant footage of authentic World War II-era De Havilland Mosquito bombers used for the movie production. The scenes of these rare aircraft in flight are a delight, especially since there the are no airworthy examples left in the entire world today (the last one was lost with its crew in a tragic crash in 1996). The model airplane special effects are too obvious, especially when compared to the quality of "The Bridges of Toko Ri" starring William Holden. Nonetheless, it's still pretty exciting and viewers can't help but compare the squadron's climatic attack in the treacherous fjord with "Star War's" Jedi attack on the Empire's Death Star.
The script and several scenes could have been better, but the authentic aircraft are worth watching. Overall a decent adventure, dated, but enjoyable if you're a fan of the famous De Havilland Mosquito fighter-bomber built of wood, and flown by pilots in daring missions that helped win World War II.
For those interested, there's a nice De Havilland aircraft museum north of London, England, on the actual grounds where these impressive aircraft were built. The original prototype Mosquito airplane, and another production model used in the later movie "Mosquito," are on display.

Based on true events, this "exciting, engrossing [and] breathtaking" (The Hollywood Reporter) action-adventure stars OscarÂ(r) winners* Cliff Robertson and George Chakiris as two WWII fliers pitted against the Nazis in a do-or-die mission. Filled with "blazing, pulse-pounding and realistic air-fighting footage" (Boxoffice), 633 Squadron will "put your heart in your throat" (Los Angeles Times)!1944. Allied forces learn that the Nazis are planning to pummel England with an all-out rocket blitz. The only way to stop the threat is to send Mosquito bombers into narrow Norwegian fjords to create an avalanche that will crush the Nazisrocket-fuel plants. Can Wing Commander Roy Grant (Robertson) and the boys of the courageous 633 Squadron pull it off? And if so, will they live to reap the glory?

Wild America (Snap Case) (1997) Review

I think the title kind of explains it all really. Three guys going off into the wild of America, on a mission to find a cave filled with a thousand bears, although being told that they sleep alone, the boys don't believe anyone, find the cave, and have loads of adventures along the way!! Jonathan Taylor Thomas played a great part in this movie and he really narrated it well too! As I live in the UK, I was lucky enough to see it while I was in America, I'd always liked Jonathan and Devon's films, and this was another one I HAD TO HAVE!!! I would also say that this is a great film for all the family, only recently has it been released in the UK, but I bought it in America, luckily I have an international VCR. This film is way cool. I would really reccommend it.

Kid Adventures: Sky Captain Review

I've spent hours reading reviews and trying to find a good Wii airplane game for my just turned 5 year-old son (who is obsessed with airplanes). He was bored after a while with the airplane part on Wii Sports Resort but the "daddy" airplane games like Blazing Angels are WAAY too hard for him and have bad language on them. After several months of researching, we finally found this game that just came out. He's played with it for a few days now and just loves it. A lot of the things are locked to start with but that's okay because there are lots of missions and it makes it a challenge to do well so it will unlock airplanes and missions you like. Luckily, you have to do well to unlock things but not that well. He's playing it right now with a big smile on his face and I'm enjoying the rare moment when he isn't saying he's bored. I would say the recommended age would be around 4-10 or 12.

Logitech Attack 3 Joystick Review

Logitech Attack 3 Joystick

I needed a joystick, nothing fancy just something simple. I bought one that was a little too simple for about $16. I needed ANOTHER one. I found this Logitech Attack 3 one, for also $16. The caliber of the LA3 in quality and use is amazing. This joystick is fantastic. The stick itself is spring loaded but feels like it's gliding. The buttons and trigger are all on hair touches making for easy presses. And the throttle is a gliding scroll button that's very smooth and never leaves where you put it. One hand works the stick while the other works the bottom buttons and throttle. If you need a joy stick for some simple flying and dog fighting, (i.e. Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed) then the Logitech Attack 3 is perfect for you. Low price that delivers way more than it should. If you're a "sim" kind of guy then no, don't get this because it's not a sim stick, it's a joy stick, and it will bring you joy.

Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter Review

Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter

I never played the original Star Wars Starfighter so I cannot accurately compare the two games. I do know , however that Jedi Starfighter is a very good looking and fun game.
The graphics are the best thing that JS has going for it. There are over 40 ships from the relam of Star WARs (old and new). Their detail is great, and their flight patterns and movements are awesome. The coolest thing is the trailing afterburners of all the ships. Your ships lasers are very cool and they sound just like the lasers in Star Wars movies. The backgrounds are also very good pieces of artwork.
The story line in JS is set right after Phantom Menace but before the Attack of the Clones. Wlhat I really like about the story is that the writers did not try to make it like the movie, but instead set it in the world of George Lucas during a different time and place. This is smart! Movie plots are hardly ever accurately translated to game plots.
Another cool thing about JS is that you can play two players. There are five different modes for multiplayer, and get this you can play the regulary story based missions as a co-op two player journey awesome.
The story missions are the coolest to me, and you play as two different characters Adi Gallia(Jedi), and Nym who is a land owner fighting the seccessionist in Karthaak.
Like the first Starfighter, the game is not really a Star Wars game other than the flavor and the music. It is not like Rogue Squadron in that sense. But to me the controls and gameplay are better than in Rogue Squadron. You are not bound by a fake ceiling or bottom in mid-air. you have total 360 degree movemant in your planes. The weapons are ample and accrately done and Adi Gallia can perform force attacks from the cockpit.
Add to all of this the ability to unlock trailers and extra vehicles for multiplayer mode, and you have a very good game. I reccomend it to all Star Wars fans and to anyone who likes aerial shooters.

The galaxy is in turmoil as the events of Star Wars: Episode II rapidly approach. Mace Windu dispatches one of the Council's top Jedi, Adi Gallia, to investigate disturbances in the Karthakk system caused by a secessionist movement that threatens to expand. Using the Republic's new prototype Jedi starfighter, Gallia sets out on missions that lead to events depicted in the Star Wars: Episode II film. She quickly gains an upper hand in space battles using her Force powers, but will these be enough to counter the massive fleet of the evil Captain Toth and a mysterious figure that threatens the very foundations of the Galactic Republic system?
You'll fly the new Jedi starfighter and get a look at characters and events from the film. The game contains single- and dual-player action in more than 20 story-based missions. Fly all missions cooperatively with a friend or in single-player mode in a variety of spacecraft. Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter features more than 40 new craft, including massive capital ships, three new flyable fighters, new enemy craft, and more.
