"wait a minute! kyle, i move so slow and i cant...control...myself...what the heck is that? my character is...a.....blob! must...turn...it off....so i did, and i told my friend never ever bring it over again. a word of caution: if u don't want a handful of frustration, confusion, and difficulty, DONT GET THIS GAME!!

Advance Wars: Dual Strike Review

Advance Wars: Dual Strike

Advance Wars DS is a portable strategy gamers' dream. With 8+ levels of unlockable skills requiring at least 8
hours per CO, the play time of this came could surpass 80 hours easily. Complicating matters would be the unlocked CO skill's
battling your unskilled CO later in the game. An example of the skills are receiving cash for destroyed enemy units,
reducing production costs for your CO by 5%, increased direct fire attack by 5% and a city fighter skill yielding 5% bonus
in cities. Up to four skills can be used at one time by one CO with at least 5 different skills per level.
Two CO's can now be used and switched while playing the game. Kanabei can be used to conduct ferocious attacks and
replaced the next turn with Colin to get cheaper unit production. Coupled with
the skills mentioned above you can customize your skills for power vs profit. After you have filled your CO power meter,
both CO's are filled, you can conduct simulataneous CO super powers to devastating effect on the battlefield.
Another option available in Versus Mode including Design Maps is four levels of AI. Defense, Assault, Normal and Strike.
The AI modes can become very challenging, increasing gameplay value for any given map.
A new History menu item is available in the game. History will provide a through overview of anything you have ever done
in the game with medals awarded for suprassing certain amounts. For example medals are given for XXXXX number of credits.
Multiplayer mode has been revamped with new trading options. Coupled with wireless capability of the DS, Advance Wars
DS will instantly become a classic around any public gaming setting. One word of caution, every player will need a
copy of the game. A copy of the game is almost mandatory from a training stand point. We all know training fellow
gamers can be challenging at times.
All of the game features covered until now, have very little to do with campaign mode. Campaign mode in Advance Wars DS
is just as challenging and refreshingly different as the original editions. Move your troops around obstacles and fight
the bad guys as only Advance Wars can. The tutorials are as always, integrated into the game play and can be quite
frustrating to the "casual gamer" like me.
Graphics in the game are basic with a sort of 3D perspective of the battlefield. Birds randomly fly across during
gameplay. I welcome the large bulky text and simplistic menu system.
Sound is the same as always.
I have enjoyed Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2 for almost three years now.
Hit:
1) History, I enjoy seeing how many units fell in battle.
2) Three M's, Maps, Maps and more maps. This new version delivers!
3) 3 second average load time to the main menu! No waiting for boring company logo and the idle animations are fun to watch.
4) Two CO's.
5) Customizable AI for Design maps.
6) Customizable skills for CO's!
7) New weapons in game: black bomb (5 damage to all affected units) and megatank.
8) New CO's!
Miss:
1) Using the stylus, this veteran likes his control based gameboy. Which still works flawlessly!
2) Music, I keep it switched off.
3) Maps in Design Room are not any bigger.
4) Dual Screen battles are to much of a good thing. Luckily they are not the focus of game play either!

It's ok. The SNES game is way better. Very hard. No saving, no codes.

The galaxy is under attack by Imperial forces, and only a small group of Rebel warriors is fighting to restore freedom. You can play as: Luke Skywalker, the young hero; Han Solo, a space pilot and smuggler; or Princess Leia, the brave opponent of the Death Star. With the assistance of Obi-Wan Kenobi and two familiar druids, you'll journey from the Mos Eisley Cantina to the Tatooine Desert to tackle the evil forces of Darth Vader and his menacing rule. With action based on the classic film of the same title, STAR WARS delivers all of the excitement of the big screen in the form of a detailed, hand-held game.

this is a game you can't get tired of. It's one of those games you can't put down after you've started. ok, the graphics aren't the greatest but you have to remember, this game was around when the original big fat clunky gameboy was around which makes the graphics pretty good for its time, I think. and this game has characters and dialogue right from the movie. there a flaws like every other item you'll buy. the game doesn't exactly follow the movie. when you land on the deathstar you never get to be disguised as a stormtrooper as i had hoped. another thing is you find out princess leah (however you spell it) is on the detetion level and you're already on the detetion level. and the only thig obi wan does for you is give you the lightsaber which yo only need to use once in the entire game. and i think te deathstar trench run could hve been spruced up a little more but it's still pretty cool. overall this is a great game though. some people complain about there not being a save option. i don't want one! this game is way to cool to stop playing!

Star Wars Episode I: Obi Wan's Adventures Review

Star Wars Episode I: Obi Wan's Adventures

When I got this game as a gift, I popped into the Game Boy Color's slot this transparent game pak, and "wow!" The first thing I saw (except for the manufacturer's logos) was amazing widescreen snapshots from Star Wars Episode I as the introducing little cutscene. It looked like something out of a Super Nintendo! This game has beautiful, focused color and some of Obi-wan's special features such as his ol' reliable blue lightsaber, his laser pistol, and especially the Force. Battle droids, destroyer droids, and even the evil Darth Maul will try to "play" with you, but with your skills you can stop them and the whole Trade Federation. If you're up to it, young Jedi Apprentice, then obtain this action-packed game! Good luck, and may the force be with you.

Star Wars Trilogy: Apprentice of the Force Review

Star Wars Trilogy: Apprentice of the Force
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Star Wars Trilogy: Apprentice of the force seems like the greatest way to fully enjoy Star Wars. This is not a bad game but as my title says, its repetative. That's not to say its a bad game, it just rehashes too much at throughout each level.
The game is comprised of five chapters, ten levels in each chapter so the game is 50 levels long. You control Luke throughout your journey through the Star Wars Trilogy. You'll begin in A New Hope and end in Return of the Jedi. The game follows the story quite closely and throws in a scene shot (not an actual scene, think of Super Star Wars) from the movie every now and then.
The game plays out simple. Each level is a 2D side-scroller where you'll work your way from one of the level to the other. When you first begin its really easy to get into it. The game doesn't present any major challenges and then you get to the moment where you have to stop to massacre a bunch of your enemies at once. Pretty soon this becomes a chore in almost every level. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't have it play out the same way. Luke doesn't take much damage... and he deals out a lot. Top that off with most levels can be progressed through pretty fast so in short it feels like your doing the same thing over and over again. This also wouldn't hurt so much if the game weren't so easy.
There are a few fun levels though. The Trench of the Death Star is pretty fun, and so is the Speeder Bike chase from Return of the Jedi but these level are too few and far between. Mostly you'll just play through the side-scrolling levels. If the game didn't have 40 of these levels and had a bit more variety in the gameplay it would be a little better.
However, Luke does get lots of different moves. When you begin you can only do the basics like jump, crouch shoot and the like. By the time you get to the end of the game you'll be able to do backflips, double jumps and a whole lot more. After each chapter Luke gains another ability or two he can use. This makes it so there's plenty for you to do. I wish as the game went on though, enemies attack patterns would change. An enemy that only fire one blast at you will always only fire one blast at you. As you get further into the game the difficulty level never ups itself.
After you get through the game though, you can rush through the game playing the levels that aren't the same old side-scrolling. But that isn't enough to warrant this game for a buy.
Graphic wise the game doesn't live up to the full potential of the GBA. Visually it isn't appealing enough but it runs pretty fast and stays consistant. I haven't experienced any slow down. The game is pretty colorful but a bit more of a facelift would've been nice.
The audio in the game is disturbingly good. While John Williams classic score sounds a little odd coming from the GBA speaker at times, it matches up with the movies really well. The game also borrowed voices from the movie and dumped them in; from the Jawas to Darth Vadar. There are some original tunes but most you'll recognize from the movies.
This isn't a bad game but it also offers no replay value. Its too easy for starters and eventhough its 50 levels long you can finish it in a day or two. Should you buy it you won't have it long before you fully exploit what it has to offer. The repetativeness of each level is also tedious after a while.
Overall, this is not really a bad game but it really isn't good either. Great idea, but it doesn't live up to the potential of what it could be.

Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Review

Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

This is the first video game I had ever owned, and I thought it was too hard until I pulled it out from underneath a pile of dust next to my old Super Nes. I played it on my Game Boy Advance, and realized it wasn't half bad. The only problem is that it has an annoying password save feature that keeps it from being really fun. But the game works well in full color, has awesome graphics, good characters, and many challenging levels. The bosses are huge (rancor monster, jabba the hutt, boba fett, darth vader etc.), but they have an easily recognizable weakness (the rancor monster's hand flashes, indicating you should hit it with your lightsaber), and the sandcrawler is quite easy, even for the first level. The game was high-tech for its time (the scout bike level is in 3-D), and it is still one of the most fun games I have.

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron Review

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You begin playing this game as a stormtrooper named X1 (or X2) both X1 & X2 are the first storm troopers in the Star Wars universe, or something like that, and you are given missions (stages) to run through and complete. In the first few stages you are playing during the time of Star Wars Episode 1, and progress through each chapter of the trilogy to beyond Return Of The Jedi where as you progress your skills get better and better where you start as a weak like storm trooper and eventually become a Jedi Knight. Tho the missions are not part of what is seen in the Star Wars saga, as you are not in control of Luke Skywalker or anyone like that. This is kind of like "Shadows Of The Empire" where you are in control of someone else that is more an unseen storyline from the movies.
Most of the gameplay is a type of birdseye view of your character where you run him around to blow away the bad guys and reach certain areas of the stage. You also obtain 4 different sets of weaponry, where you have your main weapon that does not run out of ammo, and you have a secondary weapon that does more damage then the regular one, but has limited ammo, as well as another weapon that is usually a bomb of some sort. As you graduate through the game, you unlock these weapons where there are markers in the game that you can switch between these weapons as various different objects from the 4 sets of weapons are needed. However, by the time you have finished the game, this method seems almost useless and annoying making you wonder why you cant just toggle through the 8 weapons, 8 alternate weapons and 8 alternate bombs/ect.
There is also stages where you are in control of an X-Wing, Speeder or Snow Speeder and things like that, where you simply just fly around and shoot tie fighters and turrets and things in space.
There is more to the game play then that, but I think that is enough info for this review.
So is the game any fun?
For a nDS game, it's not bad. But like many of these kind of games, it falls into that well known class where it is fun/ok while you are playing it, but once you beat the game, there is no replay value due to lack of options to keep you interested. The things you unlock in this game besides weapons ect, are completely useless. there is a gallery to view the still photos you see during the campaign of the game. And about 17 achievements to earn that are worthless and unrewarding. Some of the achievements are pretty pathetic, actually, most of them are. Achievements like kill 20 storm troopers, advance to this level, and things like that make no sense as you have to defeat all the storm troopers on the stages or else the gates and doorways for level progressing won't work anyway, so why bother to make that an achievement when it's something that will happen anyway? weather you want it to or not. It may as well have achievements like "you turned this game on" - "You used the A button" - "You farted during gameplay". Those things are just not very well thought out.
The other thing is once you have beaten the game, there is no desire to replay the whole thing again. And there are no new modes, levels, weapons, or anything at all to unlock once the game is completed. And even worse, there is no level select when you beat it either. If you want to go replay a mission, you have to start a campaign again and start from the beginning.
I have no idea about wifi or 2 player modes, I have only played 1 player and have no desire to check those modes out.
So, if you plan to check this game out, coughROMScough is your best bet. If you want to buy it, well, if you are a die hard Star Wars fan and just have to have it, then ok, but if you are thinking this might be a fun game to try, then I suggest you do not pay a lot for it. It will only take you about a day or two to finish the whole thing, and you will be disappointed in the lack of replay value that is next to none.
