Family Guy Presents: Something Something Something Dark Side:

The story of The Empire Strikes Back is retold. Darth Vader (Stewie) is hunting the rebel Luke Skywalker (Chris) and his troops relentlessly across the galaxy. On the ice planet Hoth, Luke has a vision of his late mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi (Herbert), telling him to go to the Dagobah system to learn the ways of the Force under Jedi Master Yoda (Carl). Meanwhile Princess Leia (Lois) finds herself taking a shine to the scruffy pilot Han Solo (Peter) and, against all odds, the two soon fall in love. But an encounter with Han\'s old friend Lando Calrissian (Mort) lands them in the clutches of the Empire. Envisioning this, Luke chooses to forgo his Jedi training to save his friends. Along for the wild ride are Judd Nelson, who contributes a voice cameo as John Bender for a Breakfast Club gag, Rush Limbaugh railing against futuristic affirmative action on Tatooine talk radio, and Beverly D'Angelo and Chevy Chase as the vacationing Griswolds observing the rebellion from their orbiting station wagon. A Star Wars spoof in 2007 isn't exactly uncharted territory. As Chris Griffin notes in this episode's final moments, Robot Chicken brilliantly did it months earlier (and let us not forget Mel Brooks' Spaceballs from 1987; or, on second thought...). But the Force is strong with Family Guy, and who could resist the opportunity to hear the Muzak playing in a Death Star elevator? --Donald Liebenson

Honestly, it shouldn't matter if you are a fan of The Empire Strikes Back or not (I don't care much for A New Hope but loved the FG episode). Here is what you need to know: Is it funny? Sure, there are some laughs. Could it be better? I think so. Was it as funny as the last one? In my opinion, no.
Is it funny?-The fact that the episode had me laughing in the first few minutes was a good sign (the probe droid scene was probably my favorite scene in the episode). They do well to incorporate characters into funny yet familiar roles in the most random of times. You will laugh at this episode, so that should be worth something.
Could it be better?-Well...that is kind of my whole point here. There are so many missed opportunities in this episode to poke fun at Star Wars or other actors/actresses that are not taken advantage of. No Luke kissing Leia jokes...no Lando crossing his friends...no jokes about the Ugnaughts (pig people)...come on! Is it too predictable? Maybe...but it still deserves a shot. Besides the missed jokes, some parts were just not too funny, like the AT-AT jokes on Hoth.
Was it as funny as the last one?-I have my criticisms about Blue Harvest and they transfer over to this one too, but Blue Harvest just seemed to have the classic Family Guy humor to it whereas this one didn't.
In the end, I am glad they made this one, hopefully learned some lessons for when they make Return of the Jedi. If you are a Family Guy Fan, definitely buy it as it is worth seeing. Rewatch value is not as good as Blue Harvest, but still a worthwhile investment.

Family Guy - Blue Harvest Review

(More customer reviews)As already being a fan of the Star Wars Legacy and Family Guy, I was excited when I saw the commercials for the Family Guy Star Wars Special. I knew this was different then just the regular episodes, and like so many others, I tuned in and was pleasantly surprised. Not only was the storyline similar and different to the actual movies, it also had its own subtleties that made it unique to the way only Family Guy could do it. The movie is based on "A New Hope" (the one that came out in 1977), launching a generation of Star Wars loyalists. Everyone gets a part, and I love Stewie as Darth. It was a perfect fit as he tries yet again to conquer the world.
You can get either the regular DVD or the special edition pack. I am not really sure what's in the regular DVD, but I just bought the special edition at a store today and you get everything. Obviously, the biggest reason you would get the special edition version is because of the shirt. I love it. The details and colors are amazing. What's funny is, it looks like C-3PO/Quagmire is asking R2-D2/Cleveland about his sister's lesbot.
Additional goodies that you get are the baseball style cards, where one side you can put together and its a jigsaw puzzle (I wont spoil it for you), the 3-D glasses so you can watch the fight scene in 3-D. The 19 page booklet is included with sketches and storyboard. Another great feature is that Disc 2 includes the movie where you can transfer it to computer, video iPod, iPhone, and other portable media players. What that means is you can watch the movie on your iPhone, Zune, etc. The final piece is the box. Its actually a great finish piece that puts everything into place neatly and you can even use it as a centerpiece display to show off.
It's worth it. I don't think it's a rip-off like other people claim. You get a lot for 25 dollars, and I am happy and I know that this is something I will enjoy for a really long time. Freakin' Sweet.
