Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Widescreen Edition) (2008) Review

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Widescreen Edition) (2008)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just finished watching `The Clone Wars' & to be honest it was pretty good. No it's not as good as the movies & it's not as intense as the Samurai Jack-esk `Clone Wars' shorts from 2003 but then again it's not supposed to be like ANY of those. It's like comparing apples to oranges.
ALSO keep in mind that Lucas is trying to broaden his appeal to kids with this movie's style & story telling as well as with the series on CTN so it's going to be, over all, a bit more simple in its execution but no less entertaining. Don't watch this expecting an Oscar performance. It is a CGI cartoon after all, how serious/critical are you supposed to take it? It has more of an Episode 2 feel to it, for me at least, but the action sequences are just as long, intense & still 'edgy' for a CGI cartoon. They flowed well & were non-stop action. Clone troopers got it pretty bad in this movie & the lightsaber duels left me wanting for more(longer duels, that is) but were pretty good for a CGI cartoon. It held my interest the whole time though the plot of helping the huts was a bit odd. The dialogue could have used a little help but what star wars movie couldn't? I wouldn't recommend buying this movie until you see it first but if you keep in mind what this movie is supposed to be/do & you don't take it as seriously as some, then you should have fun & you'll be just fine. Anakin's apprentice is there for the young girls as well as to be the little miss know-it-all pain in the butt for Anakin the way he was to Ben (it's called irony) so she may be a bit annoying for some out there (she's better in the TV series)...and who in this world isn't about money? There is a lot of story that can be told between episodes and he wants to tell it (whether is executed well or not). We all would do it too & you all know it.
`TCW' story line isn't a major one in the Star Wars universe. It feels more like a made for TV movie but it ultimately starts up the TV series so there is a longer broader story to set up here as well.
Simple, aims at a broader audience & still a fun watch, if only once, in my opinion.
I say rent it first, watch it for what it is & go from there.

Wii Blast Saber Combo pack Review

Wii Blast Saber Combo pack

This is a well made product but it doesn't work well with the Wii remotes. When the sabers are on the remotes it is very hard to play the Star Wars game. It is hard to do a lot of the actions and movements when the sabers are on the remote. While they can still be played with as light sabers, they do not work for the purpose intended.

Wii Nerf Sports Resort Sword Duel Play Review

Wii Nerf Sports Resort Sword Duel Play
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought these with Wii Sports Resort, specifically for the new sword-fighting games, as I expect many will. They do claim right on the packaging, after all, "Works great with Wii Sports Resort."
The problem is, the sword-fighting games (every variant), require you to calibrate the orientation of the remote by pointing it at the center of the screen and hitting 'A' before the game begins. This requires that the remote sensor on the end of the remote be unhindered. The Nerf blade, of course, covers this sensor. It's true, the blade can be removed relatively easily from the 'hilt' portion of the device, which remains around the remote. Still, you have to start the game up without the blade, then pause so you don't get clobbered while you attach the blade, and then get to actually playing the game.
Other than that, I'd say the things are well-crafted and I have no issues with the materials or quality. But for a device that really adds nothing but 'look and feel' to the game, the whole process of detaching and re-attaching the blade each time you start a new match pretty much kills the added immersion.
I really wanted to love these and was looking forward to lots of sword-swinging fun. Playing detach-and-attach the blade all day sucks out any joy from using them though, and in the end I can only say it's a great disappointment. I can't find any way to justify spending almost half the purchase cost of the game itself on these at all. Thus the low final rating.
(Note: Disabling the option for sensor bar assist in the settings seems to have no affect on the sword game calibration sequence that I can find -- it still requires the sensor calibration at the start of each match. If anyone finds a better way to actually use these things with Wii Sports Resort, I'd be most interested and would be inclined to give them a better rating.)

Wii 2-Pack Glo Sword - Red and Blue Review

Wii 2-Pack Glo Sword - Red and Blue

I bought the Glo Swords thinking it would be fun to have with the Force Unleashed on Wii, however this product blocks the sensor in the front of the remote so you have to use the dpad to navigate throughout the game. This caused frustration and I ended up taking the glo sword off the wii remote so I could navigate through menu options with out hassle of using dpad. This product is also awkward on the wii remote as it is difficult to swing and move the wii remote around while this item is attached. I also found that the item seems to mess up the wii remote on swings with using the characters in the game and doesn't work right at all. In all honesty I plan on taking this back and getting my money back because it doesn't work at all how I would like it to work !

When I first received the item it looked nice and seemed well put together, but during game play, the wood got in the way of the signal a lot, also the top part came off after relatively few swings. I think the weight of it is an issue also for younger people, they could hurt themselves or friends with it.

Although the idea is great, the design leaves a LOT to be desired. First, it's tough to get the remote into the handle. After we finally wrestled the remotes into the sabers (with our children dancing about us impatiently) my husband and I discovered that the sabers BLOCK the remote's signal!!! We had to pry the remote back out to start the game!
After one round of dueling in Sports Resort, the kids wanted them off. Don't waste your money on these!

Wii Twin Star Sabers Review

Wii Twin Star Sabers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got these as a birthday present and was extremely excited to use them with my children playing Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels and Star Wars: the Force Unleashed. Who wouldn't be? They power on by lighting up the "lightsaber" and make the powering on noise from the films. When you swing them they occasionally make the swishing sounds from the movies. I love the idea of being able to play the sword fighting games with light sabers!
Unfortunately, the calibration is off. You have to take the controllers out of the saber every game and even then they don't seem to register well ruding the game to wild-swinging game settled by luck. And with two children this can be dangerous! (Swinging the sabers is still fun, even if they don't work for the games, which is why I gave this a 3 for fun.)
Also, the plastic that straps it on to the Wiimote is really cheap. The Wiimote sets into the bottom of the saber, then the top part folds down on top (like the cockpit of a jet closing), with two slide locks on each side. The problem is that the slide locks are extremely fragile and wont hold the Wiimote in during wild battles. So to resolve this we had to constantly hold the silver part of the sabers instead of the more natural Wiimote. (I'm thinking of adding some kind of strap.)
Bottom line - these accessories like a lot of Wii accessories bummed us out. We ended up taking them off and playing without. For kids to play without swords should give you your answer on whether or not you want to buy this.

The next chapter in the Star Wars saga, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, tells the story of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice, a mysterious figure trained by the menacing Sith Lord, to hunt down the last of the Jedi. Set in the dark times between Episodes III and IV, the story is both a continuation of the prequel trilogy -- exploring the aftermath of Order 66, which called for the immediate execution of all Jedi, and focusing on the continued rise of Darth Vader -- and a direct bridge to the Original Trilogy. The Force Unleashed will forever change the fate of the Galaxy and explain key plot points that directly lead into events in Star Wars: A New Hope. With The Force Unleashed , LucasArts not only introduces a new chapter in the Star Wars saga, but also two completely new and innovative technologies -- Digital Molecular Matter by Pixelux Entertainment and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd. These groundbreaking technologies combine with Havoc physics to create true next-gen game play and the Force like it's never been seen or experienced before.

Dual Glow Sabers Review

Dual Glow Sabers
Average Reviews:

I got these light sabers for my small sons. They looked really cool and there were two in the package - a bargain? I have three problems with them:
1. The construction of this light saber does not completely mesh with the wii controller. Buttons are too easily activated - and we are talking buttons that you didn't want pressed! Frustration level can be high. Who wants to carefully use a light saber with the most controlled and lightest of touches when you are busy fighting the dark forces!
2. The craftsmanship is for the birds (but what these days aren't?) and after 2 weeks of usage by adults, it is cracking along the seams. Thankfully, I still have the receipt.
3. This is not a complaint against the light sabers but just a tip on their use. They work with Clone Wars and the like but no so much with the Lego, Complete Saga game. The original recipients of this item were my young kids but they were kind of useless for their G-Rated game. Although they LOVED to swing them around, it did not do much in the way of helping them in the game.
I am not sure about getting the higher priced ones since I hear they have problems too....

The light sabers are terrible. They interfer with the signal to the sensor, which makes game playing impossible. Also, the handle doesn't fit into the controller. It seems to slide in, but it doesn't stay attached. It appears to have a good connection, but the notches just don't work.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace Review

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This latest Star Wars game for the Playstation, for several reasons, lives up to all of its hype. The two greatest aspects of The Phantom Menace are its gameplay and atmosphere. When you wield your lightsaber as Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon, you imagine yourself grasping the Jedi weapon; the dual shock controller rattles and vibrates with every precise slash, and jarring parry. You see as well as feel all the damage you inflict on your enemies. Also, the stunning music score by John Williams added to the high-quality sound effects and talented voice acting makes this game an unrivaled console experience for any Star Wars fan.Another factor that makes this game great is the combat (the analog joystick gives you fabulous control of your character). It is challenging and satisfying. You cannot simply hold down the attack button and watch your foes whither before you. You must carefully plan your means of approach and engagement (this gives the game extensive replayabilily). And yet the combat isn't too hard as to be frustrating. The rolling dodge is a simple and useful maneuver, and force push is very handy in a melee as well. Blasters are tricky at maximum range, but once you master them you'll be much more effective. Lightsabers can be used to dissect near by enemies or deflect unfriendly fire back to its source (you perform this blocking yourself and timing can be difficult, but it's well worth the effort). Another praise-worthy feature of this movie-based masterpiece is its color and design. The levels (especially the "Gardens of Theed" mission) are breathtaking. The expertly crafted vegetation and architecture greatly add to the beauty and enjoyment of this game. As with all games, TPM has its own set of shortcomings. The camera view is too high, and being directly above the character disallows the player a glimpse of up-coming challenges (this can be somewhat countered by jumping). Also, the idea of playing as non-Jedi characters was a poor one. As a Star Wars fan I purchased this game strictly for the lightsabers and Jedi, and if I want something different I can buy James Bond or Syphon Filter.Despite these few faults, The Phantom Menace is a riveting and enjoyable game that I highly recommend buying . If you are a Star Wars fan and love Jedi and lightsabers, then this game will hold you captive for hours on end.

The paper covering the blades is for packaging purposes only. Once you put the batteries in and turn it on, you have a beautiful blue and red saber (blades are white when turned off). They are easy to use and make game play that much more fun. They are sturdy and have the look of a real saber hilt. I have purchased another brand of Wii sabers prior to these and they were way to fragile and broke within a couple days. Breaking them was my fault cause I hit something, but I have accidently done that with these as well, and they were just fine. I dont recommend hitting objects though, eventually they will break. These sabers are much sturdier and have a way better glow then the others. If you want a saber for your wii, then these are it.
