Wii Airplane Controller Stand Review

Wii Airplane Controller Stand

I was disappointed with the coltroller stand. You really get no 'airplane' style action from it. It does work in keeping your controllers separate while in battle. I don't think it was worth the 23$.

Food Network: Cook or be Cooked Review

I really liked this game, I just wish they had added more content. 30+ recipes is a bit deceiving, as they count all the parts of one meal as separate recipes. For instance, pancakes with bacon counts as two recipes and Cheese Quesadillas with Tomato Salsa and Guacamole counts as three. As you can imagine it doesn't take long to work through all the recipes in the game.
Other than how short it was I had no other complaints and still think it was worth purchasing. The game play is fun and I actually picked up quite a few good tips! I liked that the recipes were real and would actually work in my own kitchen. I recreated the pancakes with nutmeg in real life and they were delicious! Hope they make a sequel - just with way more content.

NEW DREAMGEAR DGWII-1148 NINTENDO WIITM TWIN STAR SABERS (VIDEO GAME ACCESS) Review

NEW DREAMGEAR DGWII-1148 NINTENDO WIITM TWIN STAR SABERS (VIDEO GAME ACCESS)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got these as a birthday present and was extremely excited to use them with my children playing Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels and Star Wars: the Force Unleashed. Who wouldn't be? They power on by lighting up the "lightsaber" and make the powering on noise from the films. When you swing them they occasionally make the swishing sounds from the movies. I love the idea of being able to play the sword fighting games with light sabers!
Unfortunately, the calibration is off. You have to take the controllers out of the saber every game and even then they don't seem to register well ruding the game to wild-swinging game settled by luck. And with two children this can be dangerous!
Also, the plastic that straps it on to the Wiimote is really cheap. The Wiimote sets into the bottom of the saber, then the top part folds down on top (like the cockpit of a jet closing), with two slide locks on each side. The problem is that the slide locks are extremely fragile and wont hold the Wiimote in during wild battles. So to resolve this we had to constantly hold the silver part of the sabers instead of the more natural Wiimote. (I'm thinking of adding some kind of strap.)
Bottom line - these accessories like a lot of Wii accessories bummed us out. We ended up taking them off and playing without. For kids to play without swords should give you your answer on whether or not you want to buy this.

Wii Blast Saber Combo pack Review

Wii Blast Saber Combo pack

This is a well made product but it doesn't work well with the Wii remotes. When the sabers are on the remotes it is very hard to play the Star Wars game. It is hard to do a lot of the actions and movements when the sabers are on the remote. While they can still be played with as light sabers, they do not work for the purpose intended.

Wii Nerf Sports Resort Sword Duel Play Review

Wii Nerf Sports Resort Sword Duel Play
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought these with Wii Sports Resort, specifically for the new sword-fighting games, as I expect many will. They do claim right on the packaging, after all, "Works great with Wii Sports Resort."
The problem is, the sword-fighting games (every variant), require you to calibrate the orientation of the remote by pointing it at the center of the screen and hitting 'A' before the game begins. This requires that the remote sensor on the end of the remote be unhindered. The Nerf blade, of course, covers this sensor. It's true, the blade can be removed relatively easily from the 'hilt' portion of the device, which remains around the remote. Still, you have to start the game up without the blade, then pause so you don't get clobbered while you attach the blade, and then get to actually playing the game.
Other than that, I'd say the things are well-crafted and I have no issues with the materials or quality. But for a device that really adds nothing but 'look and feel' to the game, the whole process of detaching and re-attaching the blade each time you start a new match pretty much kills the added immersion.
I really wanted to love these and was looking forward to lots of sword-swinging fun. Playing detach-and-attach the blade all day sucks out any joy from using them though, and in the end I can only say it's a great disappointment. I can't find any way to justify spending almost half the purchase cost of the game itself on these at all. Thus the low final rating.
(Note: Disabling the option for sensor bar assist in the settings seems to have no affect on the sword game calibration sequence that I can find -- it still requires the sensor calibration at the start of each match. If anyone finds a better way to actually use these things with Wii Sports Resort, I'd be most interested and would be inclined to give them a better rating.)

Wii 2-Pack Glo Sword - Red and Blue Review

Wii 2-Pack Glo Sword - Red and Blue
Average Reviews:

I bought the Glo Swords thinking it would be fun to have with the Force Unleashed on Wii, however this product blocks the sensor in the front of the remote so you have to use the dpad to navigate throughout the game. This caused frustration and I ended up taking the glo sword off the wii remote so I could navigate through menu options with out hassle of using dpad. This product is also awkward on the wii remote as it is difficult to swing and move the wii remote around while this item is attached. I also found that the item seems to mess up the wii remote on swings with using the characters in the game and doesn't work right at all. In all honesty I plan on taking this back and getting my money back because it doesn't work at all how I would like it to work !

I've spent hours reading reviews and trying to find a good Wii airplane game for my just turned 5 year-old son (who is obsessed with airplanes). He was bored after a while with the airplane part on Wii Sports Resort but the "daddy" airplane games like Blazing Angels are WAAY too hard for him and have bad language on them. After several months of researching, we finally found this game that just came out. He's played with it for a few days now and just loves it. A lot of the things are locked to start with but that's okay because there are lots of missions and it makes it a challenge to do well so it will unlock airplanes and missions you like. Luckily, you have to do well to unlock things but not that well. He's playing it right now with a big smile on his face and I'm enjoying the rare moment when he isn't saying he's bored. I would say the recommended age would be around 4-10 or 12.

Medal of Honor: Vanguard Review

Medal of Honor: Vanguard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Basically you just run around Italy and France shooting Nazi's with your airborne sqaud. To progress further in the game you have to accomplish certain tasks such as clearing a building thats full of enemies. Setting up bombs etc. The AI is pretty predictable and the enemies shoot from their defensive positions and just wait for you to kill them. It would be nice if they took the offensive sometimes.
The Wii remote and Nunchuk are fully utilized for this game and it took me a few hours to get used it. To look around you use the Wii remote (pointed at the screen) and tilt it in the direction you want to see, there are crosshairs on the screen that help you aim your rifle. To walk you use the joystick on the nunchuk. To me now its almost as good as using a keyboard and mouse on a PC. You also use actions with the Nunchuk to reload your rifle (shake it to the right) and you swing back the Wii remote to launch a nade. So im pretty happy with the controls.
The graphics are pretty poor but thats to be expected for the Wii. Sometimes when the battle heats up i can notice some dropped frames. It seems that this game is pushing the Wii beyond its graphical limits. Another thing is that the game is really dark, i have to push the brightness on my TV up to near maximum so i can see what going on.
The sound quality is pretty good, it gives the game great atmosphere when planes are flying overhead being hit by cannons. A couple of times i thought there were planes flying over my house!
There is a split screen multiplayer function for four people but i have not tried it yet, everyone will need their own Wii remote and Nunchuk though. Internet multiplayer is non-existent and this is why ive only given this game 3 stars. I think it could be a killer game for the Wii if it had this function.
So its one of the better Wii games available at the moment and i enjoy it a lot. Please give Wii owners online multiplayer and it would be perfect!!

Disney Epic Mickey Review

Disney Epic Mickey
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Without a doubt, Epic Mickey is a game that is going to polarize people. This is possible the hardest I've ever had to struggle to rate something. You can rate Epic Mickey anywhere between 3-5 stars and it never feels appropriate. It almost defies rating.
Disney Epic Mickey is a Wii exclusive developed by Junction Point Studio, headed by the legendary Warren Spector. The game was released November 30th and came in the mail for me far earlier than it should have. Disney and Junction Point intend to revitalize Mickey Mouse into a more relevant figure through video games, and reintroduce Oswald to the world. A monumental task to be sure, but in pursuit of that goal, Warren Spector has created a game unlike any other.
The game is simple and intuitive in its control. Mickey is equipped with a double jump, and spin attack, as well as the ability to use paint and thinner with his brush. It's very natural and is utilized quite well in the game itself. For two simple choices of painting and thinning, the game gets quite creative with level design, questing, exploration and boss battles.
One the biggest issue with this game is knowing how to approach it. This game will undoubtedly draw comparisons to the two Mario Galaxy games and I will say right now that those comparisons are, for the most part, going to be wrong because of the simple fact that the Mario Galaxy games are as linear as 3D platforming gets while Epic Mickey's maps are mostly nonlinear. There is nothing wrong with either approach, but it's important to know and understand the benefits and limitations of both to be able to appreciate what Epic Mickey has to offer.
The Super Mario Galaxy games used their linearity to craft obstacle courses with extremely well tuned challenges that are second to none. However the games gave up any sense of exploration or giving the world any coherency in order to do so. With Epic Mickey, it's an entirely different beast. Not only is it non linear, but it also has to resemble a functioning cartoon world. Because of this, the challenges you are expected to go through aren't and will never be as perfectly tuned as in the Galaxy games but that works fine with the game because it compensates with a sense of freedom, exploration and free roaming. Comparing the two based only on how fine tuned the platforming is would be akin to comparing Oblivion or Minecraft to Halo and saying those two are inferior because the archery in those games aren't as fun as shooting in Halo is. Epic Mickey stands with the best nonlinear 3D platformers and this is and this achievement of it is going to get lost in the Super Mario Galaxy comparisons.
While the game and its levels have a slow start for about an hour or so, the game manages to pick up pace and provide some creative, breath taking, atmospheric (A word you will see repeated many times in this review) nonlinear levels. The game's reimagining of known Disney locations provides an incredibly varied game world that is just a blast to explore for both Disney fans and nonfans alike thanks to being well executed both technical and artistically. While much of the magic will be lost on nonfans, the game's dark, colorful, creative and varied environments will still be engaging. The game is also one of the atmospheric and immersive platformers ever made. The mood and tone practically creeps off the stages and pulls you in. The game's frame rate does drop from time to time but this is a rare enough happening to keep from ruining the experience.
Speaking of engaging, Epic Mickey sports a fantastic narrative and story that runs the gamut of emotions from hilarious, to tragic, scary and very heartwarming. The game's narrative stands as one of the better video game stories and holds its own with the better Disney and Pixar films. The game gives Mickey and Oswald a startling amount of depth. And the game's many NCPs and quest givers are just a blast to talk to, just to hear what they want to say.
The game's music is simply award worthy. The score does what it needs to perfectly well, always serving to enhance to mood, the action and atmosphere of the game. It masterfully dances back and forth between ambient tracks, truly epic combat music, and strange, surreal twisted ones such as an awesome remix of "Its a Small World",
Unfortunately, the game is hit by some considerable flaws. The camera is the single biggest problem in the game. There is a good chance the camera will kill you more than anything else in the game. It can be auto focused on Mickey with the press of a button, but this option isn't always available. While there is certainly an impressive number of quests in the game, far too many of them are simple fetch quests.

Combat isn't this game's forte either. Mickey can befriend enemies with paint, or erase them with thinner. There are also animatronic enemies that require other methods to defeat. Unfortunately, all enemies feel a bit too bloated with hit points, requiring a bit too much paint or thinner to deal with them. At the same time, enemy variety is very dull. Combat could be improved by speeding it up and adding more enemies each with unique ways of taking them down. Boss battles are exempt from this, however. They are all fun, imaginative and have multiple ways of dealing with them. Unfortunately, the game could have used several more bosses to break up periods of exploration and questing.
When moving between game worlds, Mickey jumps through a projector, taking him to a 2D creation of a classic Disney short that he has to traverse to reach the next game world. While these are provide really neat recreations, the feel out of place with the rest of the game mostly because of the lack of danger or challenge in them. It simply feels as though they are padding between the game zones, rather than an integral part of the game play and pacing. I suppose they work as nice pallet cleansers between zones, but they still feel like they're missing something. That said, most all of these can be completed in less than a minute and aren't that distracting.
Overall, Epic Mickey's numerous flaws are particularly frustrating, not because they ruin the game, but because the game is so good. With better enemy variety and combat, more boss battles, improved and a better camera, and less reliance on fetch quests, Epic Mickey really could have been one of the all time greats. Instead it is simply a rock solid game for Wii owners, and a must have for Disney fans, story loving gamers and fans of platforming and exploration.
Pros:
+ A fantastic, modernized take on the nonlinear plaformers from the N64 days.
+ Solid control.
+ Looks amazing thanks to being both Technically and artistically well executed.
+ a 15+ Hour adventure with lots of replay value.
+ Unique in its addition of a fairly well done moral choice system.
+ Paint and Thinner are quite fun.
+ A treasure trove of classic Disney lore.
+ Fantastic, Pixar quality narrative and writing.
Cons
+ Camera is difficult to manage.
+ Combat could be improved.
+ The 2D segments don't quite jell with the rest of the game.
+ Over reliance on fetch quests.

Official Wii Zapper with Link's Crossbow Training Review

Official Wii Zapper with Link's Crossbow Training
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The combination of the Zapper and Link's Crossbow Training is well worth the $20 I paid. The Zapper (which is only a plastic shell for the Wiimote and the Nunchuck) is very sturdy and amazingly well-conceived. The instructions are quite clear on how to insert the Wiimote and the Nunchuck into the Zapper.
Of course the ergonomics of the Zapper are odd, with the trigger (the Wiimote B button) being forward vs to the rear like a rifle or shotgun trigger. However, it's a compromise that Nintendo decided it had to make based on its tests on prototypes. That, and the fact that the infrared component of the Wiimote must be to the front.
The bundled game, "Link's Crossbow Training" is multifaceted and exactly what's needed to give the player practice using the Zapper. AND, the game is a lot of fun all by itself.
The bottom line on this is that the combo of the Zapper plus the game Link's Crossbow Training is a must-have (at least for me) and worth the price. Highly recommended.

Nerf-N-Strike Bundle Review

Nerf-N-Strike Bundle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My boys, ages 5 and 6, desperately wanted this game. We have Nerf Wars at home all the time, and they were originally thinking you shot nerf darts at the tv as part of the game. We purchased the game, and they have played it for quite some time. As for the gameplay, there are boy friendly graphics and sounds. The voices that speak to you are futuristically robotic, but they do provide directions which is nice since the boys can't read them yet. You unlock Nerf weapons along the way as you score points. Each weapon shoots differently: think firing speed, power, and accuracy. There are a ton of guns to earn, and we don't have all of them yet. If you have problems passing one of the game levels, you can go back to choose a different weapon and try again. Maybe you need more firing power or better aim. There are portions where you have to shoot at only certain colored robots and miss the others, as well as a portion that resembles Boom Blox as you topple towers of blocks with your shots. Most of the time we play games as family. This one bored my husband and I pretty quickly, but the boys are still really enjoying it. I was hoping for a little more from it, especially after all the hype and coming from such a big name like Nerf. In conclusion, not a bad game, but not a house favorite.
UPDATE: Many people have commented the guns are now available for individual purchase. Yeah! Good to know. Thanks!

Star Wars Jedi Knight Mysteries of the Sith Review

Star Wars Jedi Knight Mysteries of the Sith
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Mysteries of the Sith continues the adventures of Kyle Katarn in his quest to assist the still struggling Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire. The game engine is still pretty much the same, but the sequel, regrettably like a lot of sequels, sees a slight slimming down of production values. The hi-resolution sound effects are gone, and the cut-scenes are no longer acted by real actors, but by the in game graphics coupled with voice overs by an entirely different set of actors playing the same characters (save Mara Jade).
In this regard, the game is a disappointment. But, by and large, it's a respectable installation of the Dark Forces series. Though strictly speaking, it doesn't retain the Dark Forces nomenclature.
I played through both single player and multiplayer several times, and am impressed with the artistry given the technology at the time, but the game did feel a little lacking in some areas. It didn't require much patching, which was a plus, but fewer addons were made for what became known as MOTS (gamer short hand for Mysteries of the Sith), and the newer maps weren't played as much.
The story the game presents is interesting, as are the locations to which Mara must visit. The maps are big and impressive, though by this time the blocky look of the in game characters was just starting to get dated. The first Unreal game had come out, and Quake 2, catering to an older demographic of gamers, was slightly ahead of the curve.
MOTS still had the Star Wars thing going for it, but the, even with new skins, was limited. There were over a thousand multiplayer maps created by the editing community for Jedi Knight (JK), but only 172 maps for MOTS.
MOTS had a few more force powers added to the game (or so I recall), a new multiplayer game of some kind akin to the old school yard game of "smear the queer", which made for an interesting passtime.
It's an interesting game for the single player experience alone. I doubt there's anyone playing the multiplayer games anymore, but the game is now cheap enough (and usually bundled with Jedi Knight) that the single player game should entertain the most die hard of Star Wars' fans.

Manhunt 2 Review

Manhunt 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you loved the first Manhunt, you'll probably like the sequel enough to make it worth buying. The over all freaky, gritty, and gross feel of the first game is there. The basic mechanics work much the same way as well.
There are a few cool new features. You have to react to enemies searching for you in the shadows now. You can also climb and crawl.
But like it or not, the edited version DOES hinder the game playing experience. Manhunt is a perversely violent and demented trip through a nightmare world. It's SUPPOSED to be. The flashes of static every time you slash, stab, or bludgeon in execution mode does effectively mute the money shot. Manhunt 2 doesn't even contain half the gore of its predecessor. Sickos (like me) who enjoy playing games like this simply BECAUSE of their graphic nature, will (and should) feel cheated.
There are other disappointments. The graphics and physics are not any better than the first Manhunt's. In fact, thanks to the edits, they're probably worse. And the camera spins like crazy whenever you try and run from multiple enemies.
Buy it if you loved the first one. Buy it just to show that there is a vibrant adult market for games like this. But hopefully, once the silly controversy blows over, an adults only version will be available for purchase online.

Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 Review

Medal of Honor: Heroes 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After reading the critics' reviews and player reviews, watching gameplay videos, and reading up on the game's features, I could not resist the hype, and rented the game. I have to admit that I was slightly disappointed when I first started playing the game, because I have an Xbox 360, too, and I am inevitably spoiled by the graphics and the processing power of the 360.
The first thing that strikes an owner of both systems is the dull graphics. Unfortunately, the characters and the environment feels like a revamped Quake 2 engine is rendering them. You see clouds in the sky, but they are not moving. You see Allied soldiers' faces, but they are almost identical and card-board-like. The animation is not great either.
The next thing that disappoints is the lack of numbers of enemy soldiers. The first level starts off on the beaches of Normandy yet there are a handful of Nazis shooting at you. This is true in most cases throughout the first two levels.
The third problem is the AI as most people have already reported. I'm not exactly sure whether we should call it the AI or something else, but there's just something not right with the way that you get into a gun fight with Nazis hiding behind crates that are literally two feet away from you. So rather than just smashing each others' heads at an arms length, it looks like there's a dozen adults kneeling and standing up constantly on the opposite sides of a wooden box, while shooting with automatic rifles and all sorts of guns. However, this is usually more obvious during close range battles. Yet you'll get used to it the more you play.
All of the above is a little bit hard to swallow after having played Call of Duty 3 on Xbox 360 where there are a million Nazis and Allied soldiers opening fire from all directions, and explosions and people dying all around you, where the graphics are drop dead gorgeous.
Nevertheless, I kept on playing and playing and the game just grew on me. There's no doubt about it that the controls are the star of this show. It takes a while to really find your most favorite settings with the controls as you update the horizontal look speed, vertical look speed, your dead zone area, and aiming accuracy, but once locked in, you're set to have an incredible time despite all of the game's short comings. It all feels natural after a few hours of playing, and adjusting. This IS the future of aiming and shooting gameplay mechanics. You've got it all: aiming, shooting, reloading, leaning, zooming, melee, crouching, weapons switching, hand-grenade throwing, etc.
It's not only the basics, but also the additional controls for non conventional weapons and other equipment. The bazooka controls, the machine gun turret, the artillery, the radio fine tunning... It is just amazing, and so natural. Yet you can customize all of that if need be.
Even though the graphics during the game are not so attracting, the overall quality of the presentation throughout the game is top notch. Menu graphics, and design, mission briefings and voice overs, music... It's all really well done.
One other cool thing about this game is that although the Wii does not have the "achievements" system built-into the platform, the game manages to provide you with a very similar mechanic that makes it even more fun to go out of your way to accomplish more than just the required tasks during the game. You get rewards for killing 50 or more enemies with each weapon. You get rewards for completing secondary objectives. You get rewards for not dying once in certain difficulty levels, etc.
The multi-player has been one of the focal points of this game. I found myself playing the game online as if I had never played a decent regular TDM before. Once again the controls of the game bring a fresh touch to the entire multiplayer aspect. Every FPS player owes it themselves to try this game online. Even the hardcore diehard PC FPS fans will find something to like here. Also I'd like to point out that the EA Nation system that is used for the online multi-player interface is absolutely fantastic, and I've not had any lag whatsoever.
The last thing I'd like to mention is how much fun the arcade mode is. It just brings back the memories of good old times when we used to play the "point-at-screen and shoot everything with your plastic gun" days. It's something even your girlfriend would enjoy. I'm very tempted to buy the Wii zapper to play this mode, and other games that are coming out in the near future with zapper support.
I would recommend renting this game first to see if you'll like it or not. Play it for a few hours. See if it feels right. Customize the controls. Play online. Play the arcade mode. Win some of the rewards. Play at veteran level. If you like the world war two genre shooters, there are a lot of reasons why you'll want to keep the game. Yet there's a chance that you may not be able to get into the whole deadzone thing soon enough. However, if you liked the controls of Metroid Prime Corruption, there's no way you will not love this game.
