(More customer reviews)I don't often post reviews online, but I was so disappointed by this product that I was moved to make an exception. Three of the four games (Lumines, Geometry Wars 2, and Bomberman) are included on a disc. The box includes a code that allows you to download Ms. Pac-Man from Live. For people who have hard drives and Xbox Live (which really should be everyone), this latter solution is the only one that makes any sense at all. You dial in the code, download the game, and it's as simple as any other XBLA game from there on out. The other three games all must be played off the disc - it does not permit you to play them like you would regular XBLA games. However the software code is largely unchanged, so that the games themselves don't recognize they are being played off a disc. Bomberman simply doesn't work - it tries to force you to download an update of the game, but because you never downloaded it in the first place, the "update" would cost the full $10, and it won't allow you to play without the update. Lumines and Geometry Wars 2 are at least playable, but I don't know if Lumines DLC is compatible. That's iffy at best and I wasn't willing to risk it. I will be calling Xbox support, which isn't something you should have to do minutes after opening the box.
In sum: it is more of a hassle than necessary, poorly thought out, and one of the four games simply doesn't work. I am extremely disappointed and cannot recommend this product.

(More customer reviews)I had my doubts about this game -- especially after seeing a picture of the included controllers. However, I stand corrected. This was one of the best game purchases that I've made this year. The game is very fun, and has been a hit with my family. Also, the tracking of the questions/puzzles and the variety of categories makes for an exciting and lasting experience.
For the price of a normal game, you get 4 wireless buzzer controllers, batteries, and a USB wireless controller IR port. Definitely worth it after you consider how much you actually get with the game.
I'm hoping that MS decides to expand the experience in 2 ways: 1) Through downloadable content through their Live service (in the form of new questions or puzzle types) and 2) Creates new trivia games that can utilize the same controller setup.
Scene It! is a pleasant surprise for Xbox 360 gamers who want to add some casual family/friends gaming to their system (especially for those who don't own a Wii). I hope that people buy this game just to show MS that there is a viable market for quality party games on the Xbox 360, and encourages them to release other great trivia titles.

Viva Piñata (Platinum Family Hits) Review

(More customer reviews)In Viva Pinata you have inherited a garden in a fantasy world populated by living pinatas and an assortment of odd characters. Your mission is to build your garden to attract pinatas to live there. Everything you grow in your garden, including the pinatas, vegetables, flowers, and trees, can be sold for chocolate coins. You can use the coins to buy more seeds and grow more plants or to otherwise improve your garden. Viva Pinata is like a cross between Pokemon and The Sims and virtual pets, but I found that the result is greater than the sum of its parts!
This is a sandbox game of the best sort. You can make whatever decisions you want to and your garden can look however you want. You have the ability to dig ponds, grow grass, build houses for your pinatas, and all sorts of other activities that I am still discovering several hours into the experience. The decisions you make about how your garden develops will determine the kind of pinata who want to live there. The open-ended nature of the game is its best feature, and it really makes you feel like you are in control of the game's environment. The feeling of empowerment that kids receive playing Viva Pinata is enhanced by the excitement of constantly finding new things to do and play with.
I am impressed that a game that is so easy for kids to pick up is also so complex. My daughter is nine and was familiar with the controls and basic concepts within a half-hour. Yet the underlying concepts of the game are complicated. The skills I see her working on in this game primarily have to do with resource management, which as we adults know is critical for daily life. You have a limited amount of space for your garden (just like in real life), yet if you are not organized in your approach then the garden will quickly become a place of chaos. Kids will also learn the concepts of working to make money and how to budget for the next big item they need to improve their garden.
As other reviewers have stated, this looks like a game for kids, but it will suck an adult into its world just as easily. I couldn't wait for my kids to go to sleep the first night so I could start on my own garden. Time is greatly accelerated in the game, and the result is that you are very busy - you may suddenly look up from the game and see that a few hours have passed in the real world almost as quickly. The pinata are just the right amount of cute so that they are fun to watch, not annoying. There is no lull in the action for at least a few hours, at which time you may have been able to hire some helpers to take off some of the pressures of a big garden, such as watering and gathering your sellable items. This too is a good introduction to kids of the concept of people management. Lots of times you have to tell your helpers what to do, rather than just letting them do their own thing. Otherwise, their priority list is typically different from yours and those plants that you just planted may die because your helper was busy watering something less important.
Viva Pinata has way too much to offer to cover it all in such a short review. The environment is incredibly well done, from the sounds to the graphics. The game play is very addictive. Playing Viva Pinata actually got me excited to go out and do lawn work in the back yard! For parents wondering if this game is suitable for their kids, I will say that I am picky about what I let my kids watch and play and there is nothing here which offends me. There are all sorts of euphemisms around breeding pinatas (they call it "romancing") that sound very innocent but will make the adult chuckle. It is very tastefully done. And there is no doubt that your kids will be using their brains a lot more while playing this game than while playing the typical platform-style kids game. This is exactly the kind of game I was looking for to provide my kids with an enriching, non-violent video game experience. If Viva Pianta is an indication of the future of kids video games then the future is very promising.

This game will pull you in through the main story and drive you to find and do all the side quests until you finally come to one of the most thrilling final mission lines of any game I have ever played. Once it is over you are only left with one question. Should I play it again right now or move to Part II of this certain to be epic trilogy.

Halo 3: The Official Strategy Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) Review

(More customer reviews)There isn't so much complexity, nor are there really a handful of secrets in Halo 3 which require you to actually use a guide. That shouldn't suggest a guide is bad, though. It's a great guide, just not one you'll find yourself in dire need of. However, for what you get you'll more than likely be pleased. It's a very well designed guide and is very well organized. There's a lot of content to swallow but at least the guide is organized and easy to use. Just don't be surprised if you spend a bit more time reading it instead of playing the game.
This guide actually begins with a foreward that explains what you'll find in the guide. Noting that it won't spend a lot of time on the basics and that they really did want to design a good guide. They succeed... almost too well because this is certainly an exhaustive guide. Don't let the size fool you, this is far more detailed than any guide I've ever seen.
Halo 3 doesn't exactly reinvent the wheel. In fact, it plays almost exactly like Halo 2 did. For that the basics section of this guide spends a little too much time reiterating what Halo fans already know. At least it doesn't spend too much time here and if you are new to Halo it'll get you acquainted with the game. In the basics it'll go over basic controls and how to control vehicles and such. Again, nothing veterans will need, but it is good for beginners to take a look here.
The Campaign is where this guide gets interesting. Many strategy guides out there simply focus on one difficulty level: Normal. That's not the case with Piggyback Interactive's guide. This walkthrough has been designed for all difficulty levels. The way they organized it is how it succeeds in doing this. Each section begins with a map. These maps are basically from a birds eye view of the level. They point out weapons, enemy packs etc. for you.
However, the layout is what's interesting. On the map they point out what you should do at each spot. It's brief and to the point. These call outs on the maps are for those going through Easy and Normal. On the facing page is where they give you a ton of detail for what to do on Legendary. Things to do on Legendary are also called out on the map but in the A, B, C format established in other guides. So if you see "A" on the map, look on the facing page at what to do. The walkthrough is designed to help with all the difficulty levels but written with the assumption that you'll be playing through Legendary. Needless to say you can easily use the Legendary tips for the lower difficult levels.
For the gamer who fears spoilers, the walkthrough in all its detailed glory is spoiler free. There's a lot of reading, but it makes sure not to tell you about the story. It also will debrief you after each chapter of the campaign.
The extras chapter is a different story. It doesn't spoil anything, but it is meant to be read only after you've completed the campaign. Here it'll tell you more about Legendary Mode and give you tips. It also talks about the skulls. However, Bungie would not let the authors of the guide reveal the location of the skulls. You know which mission it can be found in but not where in the mission. That doesn't stop them from revealing the effects of the skulls.
There's also a bestiary, info on vehicles and most useful of all, talking about the Score System and the list of achievements. For the score system they also provide great tips to reach the score needed to net yourself achievements.
There is then a huge section of the guide dedicated to multiplayer. Most of this is just showing you maps of the area and providing tips, but they talk briefly about co-op here and they also talk about all the different modes and all the weapons you can get as well. The last thing they mention here is about Forging. It's another section that is generally brief, only helping you to get the basic feel of it.
It's an exhaustive guide, but a good one. You might find yourself a little exhausted with information at times, but at least you know its all there.

What do you get for an extra $10? just the pretty looks and a little plastic army man (Okay, it is Spartan 117). I was disappointed that it did not come with the rechargeable battery for the extra money which is the reason for the lower review however, it is still a rock solid product and is recommended for the fanboy in us all.

Ninja Blade Review

(More customer reviews)Ninja Blade is a ridiculously Over The Top action game that's about 7 or 8 hours of fun. While games like Ninja Gaiden are smooth, difficult, and epic, Ninja Blade feels more like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vs. Godzilla.
Story: 4/10
Alpha Worms infest the human population, turning them into violent and deadly mutants. The Worms can also create giant Godzilla sized monsters for epic boss battles. You play an American Ninja who's father was Japanese, but was created in a lab, and there's some mention of your mother... Umm... you're basically a video game character designed to kill monsters! That's pretty much all you need to know. The story doesn't make much sense and the dialogue is more befitting of a surfer movie than an epic action film.
Gameplay: 8/10
There are 3 types of gameplay in Ninja Blade and all are fun.
1. Hack and Slash Sword Fighting and Ninja Magic vs. Zombies and Bosses
This is the core of the game. There are 3 weapon types (katana, massive heavy sword, and fast twin blades) and they all have their own strengths and weaknesses. There are a fair amount of combos for each weapon and the combat is fluid and complete with finishing moves. You also get elemental Ninja Magic for fighting enemies and using the environment to your advantage. All of your weapons and magic can be upgraded by collecting orbs found in the environments or by killing enemies.
2. Quicktime Events
Reminiscent of Dragon's Lair, a crazy action scene plays and you press the right button at the right time to keep the sequence going. If you mess up, it's ok, the scene rewinds a few seconds and you can keep trying until you get it right. These action scenes are so over the top... It's like watching a Popeye cartoon if Popeye had 10 cans of Spinach... It's like a Jason Statham Movie x 100... We're talking Superman on meth! They're so ridiculous, you can't take them seriously; but they still manage to be fun. (Mostly because the game doesn't overpunish you by killing you if you make a mistake.) Also, if you have having trouble with these, you can adust the Quicktime Difficulty on the Options Menu!
3. Rail Shooter
There are some scenes in the game where you're on a helicopter or vehicle, firing a .50 cal machine gun or rocket launcher. These scenes are very exciting and pretty easy. Simply put... FUN.
The game mixes all 3 types of gameplay fairly often and it keeps the game from feeling stale. If you die, Checkpoints are fairly generous and you can continue at the last one. At the end of each of the 9 Missions, you get a score based on how well that you did. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME THE GAME SAVES. Unfortunately, you can't save during a Mission. (Each Mission is about 60-30 minutes.)
Sound/Music: 6/10
The explosions and roars of the giant mosters are LOUD, and the sound contributes to the action, but the soundtrack is pretty weak. It's almost as if the team was finishing the game and somebody said, "Hey, we should put some music in here." The background music is just there. Some tracks are exciting and others are bad. One of them sounds like a guy with a saxophone is in an electric chair. (If you played the game, you know what I'm talking about.)
Art: 8/10
The art is pretty good overall. From the visual effects, to the character designs, to the Tokyo Skyline, the graphics and animations are all very good.
Overall: 7/10
The game is fun and it doesn't try to be anything else.

Ninja Blade is Rated M for Violence and Gore.
If you're looking for a fun action game that's not too hard, this is it. With a Shadow of the Colossus Soundtrack, a Real Story, and Less Silly Action Scenes, this could have been in the same league as God of War. Unfortunately, the game is more 'action cartoon comedy' than epic masterpiece. Because the game is fairly short, the hero is completely forgettable, and replay value is limited, this makes a great rental.
Avoid this one if you hate Quicktime Events, Ridiculously Unrealistic Fight Scenes, or Bad Dialogue.

Naval Assault: The Killing Tide Review

(More customer reviews)First I would like to applaud 505 for backing this game as said before by others there is a lack of Naval games on the Xbox 360 but unfortunately this one is not worth 43.99. They should change the main vessel to a PT boat not a sub. When you dive your sub you only dive as deep as the game lets you. There is no manual depth setting; diving simply takes you 100 ft down and that is it. There is no sitting on the bottom or Thermal gradients to dive under to evade sonar. In short there is ZERO strategy in this game; it is shoot, dive, wait, surface, shoot, and dive..... lather, rinse, and repeat. The graphics are POOR for a Xbox360 game and the voices or crew are a joke; apparently YOU do it all: shoot the torps and deck gun as the crew is yelling good shot Captn. LAME!!!
Bottom line this game is VERY disappointing this game is an updated version of sub hunt on the Intellevision. I mean Silent Service on the NES was better and that is so very SAD. Wait for this one on the clearance rack.

Battlefield: Bad Company Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great game in its own right, with 24-player online matches, fully destructible environments, and a full range of land, sea, and air vehicles in very large maps. All of these things are very impressive for a console, but may be nothing too exciting for fans of the older Battlefield games on the PC.
It may take a little while just to get used to the game, but it can be a lot of fun once you get into it. The game overall isn't as clean or realistic as Call of Duty 4, but you really have to keep in mind that they're trying to bring a lot more to the table, whereas COD4 focused on perfecting a few key aspects of the gameplay. Those are two really different approaches to game development, and so it's really not fair to compare the two directly.
With that said, however, the controls and aiming don't feel nearly as sharp or responsive as they should, and this can get frustrating when you're trying to frantically maneuver your vehicle out of harm's way or land a shot on the guy in the tiny window across the village.
It'll be a little while before you pick up on the full range of things you can actually do in the game (tagging enemy vehicles with tracer rounds so that your buddy can lock onto it with a rocket launcher, for instance, or deploying smoke from your tank to cover your retreat). That's when things really get fun (and you stop dying as much). Online matches tend to descend into chaos rather quickly, but if you find some friends to play with and stick together, the cooperative aspects of the gameplay really shine through and can make for a very rewarding experience.
In conclusion, there are a few areas for improvement, but it's a very good multiplayer game in its own right, and it's definitely worth checking out (especially if you're new to the series).

Soul Calibur IV Review

(More customer reviews)If you've played any of the other Soul Calibur games, this game plays pretty much the same way. The reason this series is so much better than the other series out there I feel is the ability to, blow-to-blow, attack your opponent with series of attacks that do not involve memorizing a long string of commands like in the Tekken series. That said, this game is basically Soul Calibur III plus some small enhancements (outside of HD graphics) that I personally don't notice that much.
This is a really simple fighting game to pick up for first-timers, and there is almost always a character and a fighting style to suit your desire. Really, the only two very similar characters in the game are Siegfried and Nightmare, apparently for a good reason if you know a bit about the forgettable story.
Some specific notes:
Gameplay: Single player - A- ; Multiplayer (local + online) - A
First off, I don't believe games like these aren't really meant to be bought for single player. Clearly, you'd expect to practice your game in your time so that you can lay down the law against your friends on multiplayer modes.
AI is reasonably intelligent in this game, outside of being very simple in the earlier levels on the Normal difficulty setting. Higher up in difficulty, the AI plays defense very well, and this can get really frustrating, sometimes even forcing you to abandon normal attacks and to go for grapples, which for some reason the AI is pretty bad at countering.
Otherwise, when playing your friends, this is not exactly one of those fighting games that you can button-mash and expect to win. Definitely some skill and practice is involved, and the smoothness of the fights and the transitions from blow to blow make this THE fighting game to get.
Online gameplay is smooth and overall as good as the local multiplayer experience. I have not experienced any issues with lag or skippy gameplay. My only complaint here is how selecting "Quick Match" in ranked has the tendency to just match you with someone who has an open game. As a game creator, you can select the level of players you intend to play against. As a level 1 trying out the online game, I got put into too many matches against level 60+ and got slaughtered.

Story: C
This is the the only reason I am giving this game four stars. For a game that seems to promote its story about the struggle between an evil sword and a cleansing sword (assuming I even understand it right), especially from the moment the trailers hit TV screens nationwide, this game does a terrible job of incorporating the story into the game. This said, most fighting games that even have storylines do terrible jobs at integrating the story into the game as well.
If you are looking for a fighting game with a pretty nicely integrated storyline, the best that I can think of are the WWE Smackdown series. In this game, the story consists of short cutscenes between fights that hint at the location of the next fight, and maybe short snide remarks that the characters say at each other right as the fight is about to begin (that in most cases don't even seem to make any logical sense together).

Overall, this is a great fighting game to have. It's purely that and nothing more. Expect to play single player mode quite a bit in order to unlock characters and items. The real fun of this game really comes from multiplayer modes. I think that fronting $60 may be a stretch for this game unless you're really into this series.

Medal of Honor Airborne Review

(More customer reviews)I know a lot of gamers are getting tired of the same old and oft-repeated WW2 shooters. But the criticisms I've heard about this game hardly seem justified. The graphics are crisp with good frame rates and smooth play. The AI soldiers seem to react in a far more efficient and realistic manner. Also there are some great new wrinkles.
Two new features I love are the character and weapon development. The idea of incorporating character skill development into a WW2 shooter is fantastic, and while things like weapon upgrades aren't--of course--very realistic, they add an enjoyable new dimension to the gameplay. Also, parachuting into combat is really cool.
So far, I've found the control layout to be smooth and efficient--not always a given with this series. Another plus is the far less linear nature of the missions and combat. Instead of simply moving from point A to B and so on, you're generally just given a set of mission objectives and then left to work them out on your own--with far more opportunity for using terrain and flanking options to achieve success.
All in all, a very satisfying purchase and the first true next-gen WW2 shooter.

(More customer reviews)First let em start off, by saying I had been waiting for this to be released from the day I heard about, as my family and I enjoy these type of family oriented games (ie: Singstar, Lips, Scene It).
Overall the game isn't all that bad, it just is a slight disappointment, when you sit down and compare it to the pre-release videos that have been shown, the clarity doesn't match up to video previews, I had seen, there not horrible, but like another review stated, choppy, with a glow around your character... Another feature I am not happy with is the fact that you must have your kinect set to Chat On.. Well, I am online nightly playing MW2, and know have to remember to shut down the chat option before going online, so the whole world doesn't hear my entires house drama... The third, would be the outline of your character alot of time has you facing away from the tv, during the scene, making it impossible to read the lines, so you better have a good memory...
The Good points are: definately a great party game, with a bunch of people around, would be great to listen how people can improvise a scene to their own. Also another feature which seems to be the biggest hit at my house so far, would be the scenes that have no dialogue, you simply adlib the scene yourself, such as the King Kong & I am Legend scene, those seem to be the most enjoyable.
Overall, the game is probably not worth the $50 it currently was released at, but @ say $30, would be a decent investment...

(More customer reviews)I'll keep this simple; I'm 26, a hardcore gamer and this is the first game in a long time to really put a smile on my face when I play it. The game is very deep and while it does have some very minor issues with the camera, it's all forgotten once you imerse your self in its 'lego land' of puzzles and cartoon humor. An absolute must play for any gamer, any age. One thing of note is that the game contains evry musical score from every Indiana movie - simply fantastic.

(More customer reviews)If you liked LEGO Star Wars and LEGO INDY, then LEGO BATMAN is already in your Xbox....'nuff said. If you didn't like them...you won't like BATMAN...if you didn't try them, you should.
The LEGO games are fun for the whole family, young and old, the animated LEGO movie links to the gaming threads are wild & wicked and worth the purchase on their merits alone. The format for Batman is much like the Lucasfilm game sets, just not directly connected to any particular movies...although (thankfully) the Danny Elfman music (circa 1989) runs throughout the game, the style is generic Batman via LEGO LAND. The villains have teamed up to escape Arkham Asylum and the Dynamic Duo must stop them...each villain has a story arc to unlock, before free play is possible in the related locations...so like the previous installments, replay value is high, you can return to the story setting later as several optional characters including the villians themselves in order to find hidden "trophies" to build in Wayne Manor (part of the Batcave hub, where menus, story progress and unlockables lie). This way the same tales have many variations for players to explore, collecting the coin-like "studs" as currency for upgrades and unlockables. There's roughly about 30 separate levels to play, 15 in the hero chapters and 15 levels i the villain chapters.
LEGO BATMAN characters have individual moves, Batman for example can put baddies in a choke hold and throw them. An exciting addition to LEGO combat is the BATARANG, which will lock on targets for distance attacks. Introduced also, are special suits for Batman and Robin, these make certain combinations of characters a necessity for passing stages or solving puzzles...For example, in true comic book fashion,Robin can get a Magnetized-suit to scale metal walls, I can't explain the pleasure that came from watching Robin lumbering and buzzing up surfaces (sound fx here are classic) Other moves are standard for the LEGO games: grappling hooks for platforms and punching and kicking.
The character design is great and Gotham looks good...there are lest characters to be unlocked here than in any other LEGO game so far and lest upgrades as well. But as for the characters there are so good choices from the Batman Universe....Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, Two-Face, Poison IVY, Mr. Freeze, Riddler, Killer Croc, Scarecrow, The Mad Hatter, even Bane.Like the heroes, each villain has their own special weapons and moves...I bet you can guess Banes.
Another LEGO staple is the mix and match at the hub, where you can customize a character for free play by swapping the pieces around.
No major complaints, it just seems smaller than previous efforts, maybe because no direct movie-tie-in was done...like the Trilogy format.
I do miss the "character quirks" introduced for LEGO INDY, like the fear of snakes and rats, effecting character behavior. Admittedly it doesn't work well with the superhero genre. Also, since this is a Traveler's Tales project with Warner Bros. and not Lucasfilm, don't expect to find any hidden Star Wars characters this time....sorry.

2 Xbox 360 Games: Lego Indiana Jones + Kung Fu Panda Review

(More customer reviews)I got these two games as a package deal with my 360 Elite. I didn't expect much out of them. I was really surprised that Kung Fu Panda was as good as it is. It has a wonderful art style, everything is colorful and vibrant. You would expect this, for it to look like the movie (which I didn't see). What I did not expect was how fun the game was to pick up and play. I didn't play it much since I gave it to my nephew but anyone around 10 years old and up should enjoy this game. I think most people have played a Lego game by now so I won't include a review of that.
